She remarked that visa revocations are not applied consistently across all countries, suggesting that the intent was to interfere in Mexican politics.
The State Department has not publicly commented on the specific case but announced that it had revoked over 175,000 visas due to violations of visa terms or criminal activity. The department emphasized that a U.S. visa is a privilege and that it remains committed to protecting American communities from those who misuse the visa system.
