The lawsuit, filed on August 15, 2026, in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that Gutman made inappropriate sexual remarks during two assignments while Said worked at ABC News. Said alleges that she experienced discrimination, a hostile work environment, retaliation, failure to accommodate her medical conditions, and wrongful termination.
The complaint details an incident where Gutman allegedly rated a female correspondent's appearance while on assignment, and another incident where he made a sexualized insinuation about Said's professional judgment. The lawsuit also mentions that Said was required to cover the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, while experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and that her requests for medical leave were not adequately accommodated by ABC News.
Additionally, Said claims she was injured while covering severe weather in 2025 and was subsequently fired in March 2025. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, along with attorneys' fees. CBS News, ABC News, and Disney have not publicly responded to the allegations, which have not yet been tested in court.
