Conservative commentator Scott Jennings is facing potential legal action from Twitch streamer Hasan Piker over claims of racism. During a segment on his radio show on August 15, Jennings aired edited clips of Piker, who has over 3 million followers on Twitch, and made statements suggesting Piker called for violence against Black voters. Jennings stated, 'Beneath all the smiles and dancing videos, there’s nothing but hate and violence in the heart of these communists.'
Piker has indicated that he plans to pursue legal action, describing Jennings' comments as defamatory. An investigation by Snopes found that Jennings' video was heavily edited and misleading, lacking full context. Snopes reported that Jennings falsely claimed Piker supported lynchings, while Piker's original remarks were sarcastic responses to viewer comments.
Piker expressed his concerns about the media's portrayal of his content, stating that clips are often taken out of context. He noted that he has received increased threats following Jennings' comments and has had to enhance his security measures. The Daily Beast has reached out for comments from both Jennings and Piker.
