Border construction in Texas' Big Bend National Park temporarily paused

The Trump administration has announced a temporary pause in the construction of a border project in Big Bend National Park. This decision comes as Rodney Scott, the head of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), visits Texas for an evaluation of the project. Critics from both parties have expressed concerns that the construction is damaging the environment and that the area's natural terrain already deters migrants and smugglers. Scott stated on X that all construction activity in the national park is paused during his visit. Congress allocated $46 billion last summer for border wall construction, with plans to build the first layer by the end of next year. However, the project has faced significant opposition, particularly in Texas, regarding its impact on Big Bend National Park and a nearby state park.
