Alaska state courts allowed unaffiliated Senate candidate Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. to remain on the ballot alongside Republican Sen. Dan S. Sullivan, according to Fox News. The decision is the subject of a Justice Department lawsuit, Fox reported.

Republicans have alleged that Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., whose name resembles the senator’s, was backed by Democrats to draw votes from the Republican incumbent and aid former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola. Iowa Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand told Fox News that “Both parties are doing it and neither party should be doing it,” calling such activity manipulation of the political system. Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., a retired teacher, described the experience as “unending stress” in an email exchange with the Alaska Beacon, according to The New York Times.
