Democrat Annie Andrews defeated Republican Senator Darline Graham in South Carolina’s Senate election on Tuesday, flipping a seat that had been held by Republicans since 1998.

Andrews, a pediatrician, beat Graham, who had been appointed to the seat after the death of her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham. The Guardian reported that Andrews campaigned on health care affordability. With 88% of votes counted, Mother Jones reported Andrews leading by 4.1 percentage points.

Before the election, a PBS NewsHour AP Voter Poll found that about six in 10 South Carolina Senate voters said Graham lacked the appropriate experience for the office, while most Republican voters said she had it.
