Protesters continued anti-government demonstrations in Paris and elsewhere in France despite prohibitions on gatherings in the capital, with police clashing with some participants in Paris and making arrests, according to Al Jazeera and Fox News.
Al Jazeera described the protesters as Yellow Vests and said they had defied a ban on their rally. Fox News reported that the Paris Police Prefecture had rejected multiple permit requests for demonstrations in parts of the city. The prefecture cited October unrest that it said resulted in thousands of arrests and clashes between protesters and law enforcement. In a statement quoted by Fox News, police said some people had intended to target public buildings and state services.
