Arlington County has filed a lawsuit seeking to stop President Trump’s proposed 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery, after the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts approved the project in April.

The county cited potential effects on tourism and safety for local residents, according to The Hill. A model of the proposed arch was displayed at the Great American State Fair on the National Mall in June, the New York Times reported. The Flight Attendants Association-CWA also raised aviation-safety concerns Wednesday, saying the structure would stand on the final approach to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Its president, Sara Nelson, said the proposal added to safety issues she said had not been addressed since a January 2025 crash over the Potomac River that killed 67 people.
