Former President Barack Obama will campaign with Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed at an Oct. 24 rally in Detroit, the state Democratic Party announced Monday. Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jocelyn Benson is also scheduled to appear.
The event is set for the first day of Michigan’s in-person early voting period. Obama said he was looking forward to campaigning for Benson, El-Sayed and other Michigan Democrats, while El-Sayed said Obama would join his campaign trail in Detroit.
El-Sayed is running against Republican Mike Rogers for the open Senate seat. The Washington Examiner reported that the Senate Majority PAC, which is aligned with Chuck Schumer, has pledged $30 million to support El-Sayed.
