The Justice Department released a report Monday on objections by career officials to a 2021 memo from Attorney General Merrick B. Garland concerning purported threats to school officials during disputes over Covid-related school restrictions.
The report said officials had raised concerns that the memo could draw the department into a politically charged fight and concluded it resulted from pressure by outside groups and White House officials. The Trump administration presented the findings as evidence that the policy was biased against conservatives, according to the New York Times. The Times also reported that the administration has forced out many of the career officials who objected to the memo.
