Democratic allies and surrogates are debating whether former Vice President Kamala Harris would be the party’s leading choice for a 2028 presidential run, Fox News reported.
The discussion weighs Harris’s name recognition and standing among Democrats against calls for new leadership after the party’s 2024 loss. Fletcher Smith, a former South Carolina state legislator and Biden 2020 surrogate, told The Washington Post, “People just want to move on.” He said the party has younger potential leaders, including governors, members of Congress and senators, and said Harris should sit out 2028.
