The White House said Friday that Melania Trump helped broker a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in Russian-occupied Oleshky, intended to permit humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations.

PBS reported the ceasefire was upcoming. The BBC said Russia and Ukraine had confirmed the truce and reported that some residents had eaten garden weeds to survive. Al Jazeera, however, said neither Russia nor Ukraine had confirmed the White House announcement.

The White House said the arrangement concerned Oleshky, a city affected by the war. The reports did not provide a start time or further terms for the ceasefire.
