The Justice Department is reviewing allegations involving Corey Lewandowski, a former political adviser to Donald Trump and former Department of Homeland Security aide, according to the Wall Street Journal and the Guardian. The Guardian reported that the matter is a criminal investigation concerning allegations that Lewandowski profited from his government role.
The department had not issued subpoenas or other legal demands in the inquiry, the Guardian reported. The Wall Street Journal said officials had not disclosed the allegations’ details or an investigation timetable. Lewandowski served as a top aide to Kristi Noem during her tenure, according to the Guardian. A lawyer for Lewandowski did not immediately respond to the Guardian’s request for comment. Trump spoke about the inquiry before leaving for a rally in Iowa, the Daily Beast reported.
