Congo’s Health Ministry reported Tuesday that confirmed Ebola cases had risen to 9,066, with 4,381 deaths, as the outbreak spread across seven provinces. The figures, reported from Bunia, put the death toll at nearly half the number of confirmed cases.

The ministry recorded 88 new cases in its latest update and said community transmission remained a concern. It said 65 health zones in seven provinces were affected. Health authorities have faced difficulty containing the outbreak, while a large share of recorded deaths has occurred outside treatment centers, according to the report.
