Google said Tuesday that students using its classroom software will lose access to its search engine if their school systems do not also choose to use the company’s artificial-intelligence tools.

The policy ties traditional search to AI features, including AI Overviews, according to the New York Post and Wired. Wired reported that the change has drawn concerns from parents and educators who say readily generated answers could affect students’ abilities.

Google devices and software are widely used in schools, the Atlantic reported. Its excerpt said school-issued Chromebooks can provide access to Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode, while some large districts have adopted policies limiting student screen time.
