Israelis are due to vote on October 27 in an election that will determine whether Benjamin Netanyahu retains leadership or is succeeded by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot.
Fox News reported that polls show Eisenkot’s centrist Yashar party holding a narrow lead over Netanyahu’s Likud. Either party would need support from other parties to reach a 61-seat majority and form a coalition government. Deutsche Welle reported that Eisenkot has campaigned on his Moroccan heritage in Likud strongholds including Sderot.
The New Yorker reported that tens of thousands of Israelis living abroad are returning to vote. Al Jazeera said possible coalition arrangements will be central to the outcome.
