Jim Bakker, who founded “The PTL Club” television ministry with his first wife, Tammy Faye Bakker, has died at age 86, according to NPR and The New York Times.

The ministry grew into an evangelical media operation and, according to The New York Times, at one point took in as much as $129 million a year. NPR reported that Bakker later lost the enterprise amid a sex scandal and financial crimes. The New York Post reported that Bakker had announced the death of his sister, Donna Puckett, 91, a week before his own death. Puckett died in Hollister, Missouri, on Sept. 29, the Post said. In a Facebook message cited by the Post, Bakker said his sister had worked alongside him in ministry.
