Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton said at a Sept. 24 private fundraiser in Washington that he had little control over campaign messaging, according to audio obtained by Politico and cited in multiple reports. Paxton is facing Democratic nominee and state Rep. James Talarico in Texas.

In the recording, Paxton said, “I’ve never been in a race where I felt less control over the campaign and, like, what issues are going to matter because it’s all coming — you know — from D.C.” He also said he did not control the campaign’s message or actions, according to washingtonsun.com. A source in Paxton’s political orbit told Fox News Digital that he appeared frustrated by the lack of control. Paxton defeated John Cornyn in a primary, Fox reported.
