Federal prosecutors are expected to bring additional charges this week against former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Manhattan related to the alleged torture of Americans held in Venezuelan prisons, according to reports.

The BBC, citing CBS, said the accusations concern their alleged role in the treatment of Americans detained by the Venezuelan government and that other people could also be charged in connection with more than a dozen detainees. Fox News reported that U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald was expected to speak after a 10:30 a.m. hearing.

Maduro and Flores were seized in Caracas on Jan. 3 and brought to New York to face earlier allegations involving weapons and drugs, the BBC reported. They deny those charges. Fox News said prosecutors are also opposing efforts to dismiss their criminal case.
