Martha Stewart apologized after posting and then deleting an Instagram image of herself dressed as a homeless person for Halloween, drawing criticism over the costume. The image showed Stewart in ripped or tattered clothing with dirt on her face and a sign reading, “I AM HUNGRY. HELP ME!!”
The photo appeared in an Instagram carousel promoting Stewart’s QVC candles, Fox News reported. The Daily Beast described Stewart as 85 and said the post prompted backlash. Stewart said in a statement to Page Six that the costume was meant to raise awareness of homelessness; Fox News reported that she said she intended to “bring more awareness” to the issue. The New York Post headline described her apology as calling the costume insensitive and not funny.
