Javits Frimpong, 15, was fatally shot Thursday while on his way to school in the Bronx, New York City, police and multiple reports said.
The New York Police Department said officers responding at about 9:24 a.m. found Frimpong with a gunshot wound to the stomach near Corona Park. Reports said the Ghanaian teenager had moved to live with his father about a year earlier. His father said Frimpong had been bullied at school. Al Jazeera reported that thousands of people held vigils for him.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday that President Donald Trump had agreed to grant Frimpong's mother a visa, according to the Washington Examiner and Deutsche Welle.
