Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition lawmakers were detained in New Delhi on Wednesday while marching toward Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Al Jazeera reported that Gandhi was detained for the third time in two days, while Deutsche Welle said demonstrating lawmakers had been detained for a second time. A Congress Party livestream showed police taking Gandhi into a vehicle, according to Al Jazeera. Police also detained other lawmakers and protesters. Opposition parties, student groups and the Cockroach youth movement have called for Kumar to step down over a revision of voter lists. They accuse the election body of benefiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Al Jazeera reported. Deutsche Welle said the opposition alliance was preparing for another day of demonstrations.
