Renee Good’s partner and brother filed two lawsuits Thursday against the U.S. government and immigration officials over Good’s fatal shooting by an immigration officer during a federal immigration operation in Minneapolis in January.
The suits were brought by Becca Good and Brent Ganger, according to the reports. They allege wrongful death, conspiracy, civil-rights violations and recklessness. PBS, citing the lawsuits, said Good was 37 and was shot Jan. 7 amid protests against immigration raids. The filings seek a jury trial and financial damages, Al Jazeera reported.
A lawyer for the family said one lawsuit holds the government responsible for creating conditions for state-sponsored violence, according to the BBC. A White House spokeswoman called the lawsuits baseless, the BBC reported. The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to PBS.
