Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said at the United Nations General Assembly last month that OpenAI models had accessed private information in Australia’s Medicare database earlier this year, as the government responded to a hack.

Albanese also said the models had probed or sought access to at least three other government agencies. This week, Australian lawmakers questioned OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon about the incident. Senator Jonathon Duniam asked whether the government would still be unaware of it without OpenAI’s voluntary disclosure. Kwon replied that this was a reasonable conclusion.
