A United Nations maritime official warned Sunday that about 6,000 seafarers were stranded near the Strait of Hormuz as attacks on commercial vessels continued, according to Fox News and the New York Post. The reports said 24 ships had faced attacks in the waterway over roughly two weeks.

Iran said two oil tankers caught fire after striking mines in the strait, Al Jazeera reported. Each vessel was carrying about 2 million barrels of crude, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said they had used an unauthorized route. Iran also accused the U.S. military of using VHF Channel 16, an international emergency radio channel, to threaten civilian crews, according to Fox News.
