Former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio’s Senate contest, returning Brown to the Senate after the Associated Press called the race. The AP call came at 11:10 p.m., according to the Washington Examiner.
With 87% of votes counted, Brown had 48.6% to Husted’s 46.5%, the Washington Examiner reported. NPR and the Examiner described the contest as close and expensive.
The Examiner said Brown had been replaced in the Senate by Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno in 2024. Before the result, The New York Times reported that polling leads for Brown were within the margin of error.
