Utah authorities said Tuesday that DNA evidence identified Ted Bundy as responsible for the 1974 killing of Melissa Ann Smith, a 17-year-old girl whose body was found days after she disappeared.
Officials said DNA connections between Smith and another Bundy victim helped close the case, according to PBS NewsHour. The Washington Examiner reported that investigators from Summit and Salt Lake counties led the inquiry and later partnered with Utah County.
The announcement followed an April confirmation by Utah County detectives that Bundy killed Laura Ann Aime, also 17, in 1974, the Guardian reported.
