Alexandros Paporakis, 19, of Palatine, Illinois, was arrested Sunday and later charged with making a terrorist threat and unlawful weapon possession after authorities said a co-worker reported messages about a planned attack on a Hindu temple in Aurora. He appeared in court Wednesday, according to the BBC.

Prosecutors said Paporakis had planned an attack for two years and had focused on the Aurora worship center for two months. They said an AR-style rifle jammed when he attempted to fire at a man from a car Sunday. Police said searches recovered a rifle, loaded magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a tactical vest with body armor. Authorities said writings recovered in the investigation expressed white supremacist views and hatred toward non-white people.
