Former Major League Baseball first baseman Mark Teixeira was projected to win Texas’s 21st Congressional District, while Democrat Katy Padilla Stout defeated Republican Brandon Herrera in the state’s 23rd District, according to the reports.

Decision Desk HQ projected Teixeira would succeed Chip Roy after defeating Democrat Kristin Hook, The Hill reported. The Cook Political Report had rated the 21st District solid Republican since February. In the 23rd District, the Associated Press called the race for Stout at 1:05 a.m., according to the Washington Examiner. The outlet reported Stout received 51.7% of the vote and Herrera 44.5%, in a race following Tony Gonzales’s resignation. The 23rd District runs from northwest San Antonio to El Paso, the Examiner said.
