James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Texas, held a campaign rally Friday at the University of Texas at Austin, where he criticized Elon Musk’s political influence and said, “Texas is not for sale.” The Guardian reported that hundreds of students and other supporters filled the auditorium at Talarico’s alma mater.
The rally came as Neil Bush said on Facebook Tuesday that he had voted early for Talarico. Bush wrote that his decision reflected concern about Ken Paxton’s record and admiration for Talarico’s character and principles. Paxton is the Republican Senate nominee, according to the Washington Examiner, which described the contest as tight and said Latino voters could be important to its outcome. The Examiner also reported that some Paxton supporters questioned whether his campaign was doing enough to reach those voters.
