At least 10 people were killed Wednesday when two high-speed trains collided near Urda in central Spain, according to officials and local media reports.
NPR reported that one train struck the rear of another that had stopped, derailing two cars. The New York Times said officials reported at least 10 deaths, while Spain’s state-owned news agency and other local outlets cited by the New York Post gave the same toll. Injuries were also reported.
Deutsche Welle reported that the death toll was expected to rise and that rail service between Madrid and Seville had been suspended. Al Jazeera described the situation as a breaking news story.
