President Donald Trump approved the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan by a U.S. Army firing squad, the Pentagon said Monday. Hasan was convicted over the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in which 13 people were killed.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said War Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended the method of execution and Trump approved it. Parnell said the Secretary of the Army would determine when and where it will occur. Military Times, the Washington Examiner, Fox News and the BBC reported that 32 people were wounded; the Daily Mail put the number at 30. The Guardian and BBC said Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013. The BBC said it would be the first military firing-squad execution in more than 60 years.
