President Donald Trump on Friday established a White House committee to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook made false statements related to mortgage applications, continuing his effort to remove her from office.
Trump’s memorandum calls for a Nov. 5 White House hearing at which Cook “shall” answer the committee’s questions, according to PBS NewsHour and The Hill. PBS reported that the hearing will not be public but that a transcript is to be released. CNBC said the committee has three executive-branch officials, including Kevin Hassett and Keith Sonderling. The allegations concern one or more mortgage instruments, CNBC reported.
Fox News reported that Trump sought to remove Cook in August 2025, and that the Supreme Court blocked her dismissal in June 2026, finding she had not been given adequate time to respond to the allegations.
