President Donald Trump signed an executive order at a campaign rally in Nebraska on Monday waiving the off-road requirement for tax-exempt red-dyed diesel, allowing its use beyond farm and construction equipment, according to the Washington Examiner and New York Times.
Red-dyed diesel is generally used in agricultural and construction machinery and is marked to indicate that it is exempt from taxes, the Hill reported. Trump said farm vehicles, construction equipment and other off-road vehicles had long used the fuel. The Washington Post reported that Vice President Vance had promoted suspending enforcement of some federal diesel-tax rules as a way to reduce costs for farmers. Separately, Trump said Tuesday that his administration was considering suspending the federal gasoline tax, telling reporters, “We’re thinking about that.”
