The United States defeated Mexico 3-0 in a friendly at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Saturday, with Cavan Sullivan scoring to become the youngest U.S. international goalscorer, according to Al Jazeera.
Sullivan scored in the 62nd minute to make it 2-0, Al Jazeera reported. At 17 years and five days, he surpassed Mathis Albert, who was 17 years and 31 days when he scored against Chile on Tuesday. Sullivan said the goal was a moment he had dreamed of throughout his life. Mexico’s Mateo Chavez was sent off in the second half after fouling Yunus Musah and then slapping Sebastian Berhalter with both hands, the New York Post reported. The report said Berhalter had confronted and shoved Chavez after the foul.
