<p>Debbie Dingell plans to introduce her 'Hands Off Our Great Lakes Act' today following the latest developments in the US-Canada trade dispute.</p><p>As House representatives return from the summer recess, Dingell has initiated a plan to counter Donald Trump’s recent executive order regarding the naming of Lake Ontario.</p><p>The US has reportedly been losing more than $60 billion annually in trade with Canada, according to Trump, who stated that American businesses are returning to the US to avoid tariffs.</p><p>Trump and Canadian officials have been engaged in a dispute over the US government's renaming of Lake Ontario. The Ontario premier has erected a sign stating “Lake Ontario. Now and Always,” while Trump posted a video of himself removing a representation of that sign and replacing it with one reading “Lake America.” This exchange is part of a broader trade conflict involving a 50% US tariff on Canadian steel and corresponding tariffs from Canada.</p><p>Tom Homan, the White House “border czar,” denied allegations of preferential treatment regarding the deportation of British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, who was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Homan explained that Yiannopoulos had overstayed his visa and failed to appear at an immigration hearing.</p><p>On Sunday, Trump criticized NBC’s Kristen Welker for her description of the success record of his endorsed candidates as “mixed,” suggesting that she should face consequences from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).</p><p>Michigan’s Democratic US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed apologized to the state’s Jewish Democratic Caucus for comments made after a synagogue attack in March, clarifying that his remarks were not intended to justify the attack.</p>
