Police Shoot Woman After Stabbing Incident in Times Square

A woman was shot and killed by police officers in New York City on Monday after allegedly going on a stabbing spree in Times Square, resulting in one death and another person critically injured. Pamela Cisneros Lopez, 49, reportedly stabbed a woman and a man around 4:30 PM at the intersection of West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue. Following the stabbings, she fled toward a nearby police substation where officers confronted her. Video footage showed Lopez wielding large knives as multiple NYPD officers surrounded her, some with weapons drawn. Despite police commands, she allegedly charged at the officers, prompting them to fire shots. Lopez and her two victims were transported to a hospital, where she and one of her victims, a female tourist, were pronounced dead. Authorities recovered two kitchen knives from the scene. Initially reported as a robbery, police now believe Lopez had no clear motive for the attack. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, noting the presence of blood and the urgent response of police and bystanders. Investigators have indicated that the victims appeared to be randomly targeted and that there is no suspicion of terrorism. The NYPD has advised the public to avoid the area during the ongoing investigation.
