The USS Abraham Lincoln, a United States Navy aircraft carrier, arrived at Laem Chabang port in Chonburi province, Thailand, on Wednesday, marking its first port call after nine and a half months at sea. The deployment included operations in the Middle East and was characterized by reports of supply issues and low morale among the crew of approximately 5,000 personnel.
The arrival follows a period of significant operational activity, including participation in the US naval blockade and combat operations during the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran. The ship's exterior showed signs of wear, with rust patches visible along the waterline and flight deck, as noted by journalists from The Associated Press (AP) present at the scene.
Captain Dan Keeler, the commanding officer of the Lincoln, stated that the ship's condition is typical for a long deployment but declined to elaborate further. Concerns regarding the length of the deployment were dismissed by US President Donald Trump, who previously stated that the Lincoln had not been at sea for too long. When asked about the president's comments, Captain Keeler remarked that Trump speaks for himself.
The crew is expected to spend several days in Thailand for rest and recovery before returning to their home base. Rear Admiral Robert E. Loughran, commander of Carrier Strike Group 3, expressed pride in the accomplishments of the strike group during their operations, describing the arrival as a well-deserved opportunity for the sailors and Marines to recharge.
