<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Former Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Michigan to appear with Democratic Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed as he seeks to unify the Democratic Party.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Harris endorsed el Sayed following the primary election, and this will be their first joint campaign appearance. They are scheduled to attend a symposium focused on the health of Black mothers, according to el Sayed’s campaign spokeswoman Roxie Richner. Harris will also promote voter registration and turnout during the midterm elections.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Abdul is thrilled to welcome Vice President Harris to Michigan for a conversation about improving Black maternal health and bringing down healthcare costs,” Richner stated.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Harris's support is part of el Sayed’s efforts to unify Democratic voters who were divided between him and his primary competitor, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), who had significant backing from Black voters. Stevens later endorsed el Sayed after a contentious primary that involved disputes over support for Israel and corporate funding.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On Wednesday, el Sayed met with Democratic senators in Washington, D.C., who expressed optimism about his campaign against Republican nominee Mike Rogers in November.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>SENATE DEMOCRATS EMERGE UNITED BEHIND ABDUL EL SAYED AFTER CLOSED-DOOR MEETING</strong></p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Following the meeting, Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) described the conversation with el Sayed as “great,” while Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), chairwoman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, confirmed strong support for his campaign. Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), who had previously endorsed Stevens, remarked, “He is running a really good race.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Harris is among potential Democratic presidential candidates for 2028 campaigning for el Sayed, following former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's support in August. Campaigning for el Sayed may enhance the national recognition of both Harris and Buttigieg as they consider future political aspirations.</p>
