Democratic Party Faces Criticism Over Palestinian Representation

Georgia state representative Ruwa Romman expressed concern that the Democratic Party did not provide a platform for Palestinian voices at the 2024 national convention. She noted that while the party allowed an anti-choice Republican to speak, it denied speaking opportunities to Palestinian Americans, including herself. In recent Democratic primaries, voters favored candidates who showed empathy towards Palestinian losses in Gaza, leading to the defeat of several establishment figures. Notably, Abdul El-Sayed, who won Michigan’s Senate primary, focused his campaign on opposing the pro-Israel group Aipac. A May poll indicated that 60% of potential Democratic voters sympathized more with Palestinians than Israelis, with 48% believing the party has been overly supportive of Israel, suggesting a demand for a reevaluation of US-Israel relations among party leaders.
