Senate Votes Down War Powers Resolution Against Trump's Authority on Iran

The Republicans who supported the measure included Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), and Thom Tillis (R-NC). The resolution was introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) following Trump's address at the United Nations General Assembly, where he discussed the potential for military action against Iran. Recent tensions have decreased, but concerns remain about possible future conflicts, particularly after an Iranian-backed militia attacked an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia. The House had previously passed a war powers resolution in July to prevent military confrontation with Iran. Democrats have leveraged these votes to challenge Republicans ahead of the midterm elections, as public dissatisfaction with the ongoing conflict and rising gas prices persists.
