Pima County Sheriff's Department Investigates Possible New Ransom Note in Nancy Guthrie Case

<p>The Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) announced on September 29, 2026, that it, along with the FBI's task force, is investigating a possible new ransom note related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC's Savannah Guthrie.</p><p>According to a post by PCSD on social media platform X, "The PCSD/FBI Guthrie Task Force was recently made aware of a new possible ransom note related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation." The post also mentioned that investigators are reviewing social media comments regarding the note to assess its credibility.</p><p>A law enforcement source close to the case informed Fox News that there are currently no new notes being treated as credible.</p><p>Nancy Guthrie was reported missing after being taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1, 2026. She was last seen shortly before 10 p.m. local time on January 31, 2026, after a relative dropped her off at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood.</p><p>Authorities have faced challenges in identifying a suspect or person of interest in her disappearance, despite a masked individual being captured on her Ring doorbell camera.</p><p>Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed in a news briefing shortly after Guthrie's disappearance that she was taken against her will, stating, "She did not leave on her own. We know that." </p><p>In July, authorities released two ransom notes related to Guthrie's kidnapping. The first note, sent on February 2, indicated that Guthrie was unharmed and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency for her release. The second note, sent on February 6, claimed that Guthrie had died shortly after her abduction.</p><p>Authorities noted that the ransom notes were written in a unique style and encouraged anyone who recognizes the writing patterns to contact PCSD or the FBI. Individuals with information are urged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or, to remain anonymous, call 520-88-CRIME.</p>
