Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has a negative approval rating among Pennsylvania voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll conducted in early October. The poll indicates that approximately 46% of voters have an unfavorable opinion of Fetterman, while 37% view him favorably. Among Democrats, the senator's unfavorable rating is higher, with 69% expressing negative opinions compared to 13% who view him positively. In contrast, Fetterman enjoys a favorable opinion from about 72% of Republicans, with only 19% disapproving of him.
In terms of job performance, only 41% of respondents approve of Fetterman's work as senator. Approval among Republicans is notably higher at 74%, while only 19% of Democrats approve of his performance. Approval among independents stands at 32%. The poll surveyed 1,159 likely Pennsylvania voters and has a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points.
Fetterman has stated his intention to remain a Democrat and typically votes with the party. However, he has occasionally sided with Republicans on significant votes, including those concerning the Iran war. He has also participated in events with Republican figures, including a retreat with Fox News executives in Montana and a video appearance at the Republican National Committee's midterm convention, where he praised President Donald Trump and Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA), actions that received criticism from some in his party. Although Fetterman is not up for reelection until 2028, he may face challenges in a primary election.
