Abdul el Sayed, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Michigan, is receiving support in his outreach to the Jewish community, including private events attended by Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) and two other Jewish Democrats.

The events, organized by Michigan Jews for Democracy, aim to address voter concerns regarding el Sayed's views on Israel and his association with pro-Palestinian commentator Hasan Piker, which have been scrutinized.

The first event is scheduled for Sunday at a residence in West Bloomfield, Michigan, featuring Balint, who is the granddaughter of a Holocaust victim. West Bloomfield is notable for a recent incident where a Lebanese-born man drove a truck into a synagogue in March.

On Monday, undecided Jewish voters will gather at a home in Ann Arbor, where former Rep. Andy Levin and congressional candidate Brad Lander are expected to speak.

All three speakers are aligned with the left of the political spectrum; Balint has previously accused Israel of committing “genocide” in Gaza. Their participation is intended to bolster el Sayed's support among Jewish voters through prominent party figures.

Levin, who served two terms in the House, comes from a prominent political family in Michigan, while Lander is traveling from New York after challenging a pro-Israel House incumbent in June.

The events, as reported by the New York Times and confirmed by the Washington Examiner, indicate the efforts el Sayed needs to make with the approximately 100,000 Jewish residents of Michigan.

El Sayed has expressed regret for comments perceived as justifying the West Bloomfield attack but has not disavowed Piker, who suggested that American Jews supporting Israel bear some responsibility for violence against them.

On policy matters, el Sayed opposes continued U.S. military aid to Israel, a stance that Mike Rogers, the Republican Senate nominee, has sought to leverage during his outreach to the Jewish community.

The two candidates are competing for the seat of retiring Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) in a key Senate battleground.
