Two victims of a murder-suicide in Erie, Pennsylvania, which resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, have been identified as Lora Roberts, 37, and Twila Tanner, 51. They reportedly rushed to the scene on Friday night in an attempt to save Roberts' niece during the shooting. Both women were killed by the shooter, a 45-year-old grandfather, according to information from online fundraising campaigns.
Roberts was a mother of five and engaged for 14 years. An online fundraiser stated that her sudden loss has left her loved ones facing financial challenges. Tanner, who had children and grandchildren, was also killed while trying to assist Roberts.
Witnesses reported that the two women began knocking on the door of the home after hearing gunshots. The shooter then exited the home and shot them before returning inside and taking his own life, according to police reports.
The families of both victims are seeking donations to cover funeral expenses. Among the other victims was Angelina Stone, the shooter's pregnant daughter, who was close to giving birth. Stone's two other children were also among the deceased. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the remaining victims and are in the process of notifying their next of kin. Police have not provided a motive for the shooting but indicated that mental health issues may be a factor.
