Nine people, including the suspected shooter, died after a shooting at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday, city officials and police said. Police said the suspected shooter had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound before authorities arrived, and officials said there was no ongoing threat.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said eight victims were killed, seven of them related to the shooter and one a family friend. Reports said the dead included a 1-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a pregnant woman. Police were called shortly before 5 p.m. after reports of gunfire; responding officers found two women dead outside the residence and additional victims inside. The New York Times reported eight people were killed and the shooter was also dead, while other outlets and city officials reported nine deaths in total. Investigators were still determining what happened.
