Tesla Autopilot crash results in death of Texas woman

An elderly woman in Texas died on June 22, 2026, after a man driving a Tesla Model 3 lost control and crashed into her home. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the driver, Michael Butler, stated he was using the vehicle's automated driving assistance system at the time of the incident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including the role of the Autopilot feature. It was confirmed that Butler was not intoxicated and is cooperating with the investigation, which includes explaining how the Autopilot system functions. According to the sheriff’s office, Butler drove out of his lane and struck the residence at a high speed.
