Paul Pelosi faces misdemeanor hit-and-run charge in Napa County

Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is facing a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge after allegedly striking a parked vehicle in Napa County, California, on July 1, 2026. According to the Napa County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred in Yountville, located about an hour north of San Francisco. A witness reported seeing a brown convertible hit an unoccupied parked vehicle before continuing north. Deputies later located the damaged convertible, which was partially blocking a nearby roadway, and identified the driver as Paul Pelosi, 86. During the investigation, Pelosi reportedly acknowledged hitting something but was unaware of what it was. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The sheriff's office stated that no alcohol was detected upon testing, ruling out Driving Under the Influence. Pelosi was not arrested at the scene, which is typical for this type of misdemeanor offense, and the case will be referred to the Napa County District Attorney's Office for review. Additionally, a driver re-evaluation referral will be submitted to the California DMV, a common practice for elderly drivers. This incident follows a previous case in May 2022, where Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury. He received a sentence that included probation, jail time, and a DUI education program. Unlike the 2022 case, investigators ruled out DUI in this recent incident.
