Trump discusses potential military response to Iran if he is assassinated

President Donald Trump stated that he has left instructions for a military response against Iran should they succeed in an assassination attempt on him. In an interview with the New York Post, Trump mentioned, "I’ve been on their list for a long time," and added that he has instructed to "literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before." He indicated that Iran has long sought his assassination, particularly following the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Trump also referenced recent calls for his death during a funeral for Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He noted that he remains a target for Iran and mentioned domestic assassination plots against him, including an incident in July 2024 where a bullet grazed his ear during a campaign rally. Additionally, Trump commented on escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, particularly after he called off a ceasefire following Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. He reiterated Iran's interest in continuing talks but emphasized that the ceasefire is no longer in effect.
