Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) addressed domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, during a social media livestream on August 2, 2026. He stated that Moreno has "significant mental health challenges" and expressed concern for her well-being, emphasizing that he disputes the allegations against him.
Miller described the situation as painful for all parties involved, particularly for their daughter, Ruth. He noted that he filed for divorce in August 2024, which was finalized in December 2025, and claimed that the allegations against him began shortly thereafter.
Moreno has accused Miller of various forms of abuse, including an incident where she alleged he threw boiling water at her. Miller countered that this incident was merely "horseplay" involving water from a kitchen sink sprayer. He also denied an allegation that he held a gun to her head, stating that such an event never occurred and questioning why Moreno would invite him for dinner afterward.
Miller has filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno and her lawyer, Andrew Zashin, related to the allegations. He confirmed his intention to continue his reelection campaign for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, where he will face Democratic nominee Brian Poindexter in November. President Donald Trump endorsed Miller for reelection prior to the recent legal issues.
Calls for Miller's resignation have come from Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH) and the Democratic Women’s Caucus, which has also requested an ethics investigation into him. Senator Bernie Moreno has refrained from commenting on the situation.
